I highly recommend this book on "Egyptian Mythology" by Geraldine Pinch THE book to begin any serious study ofthe Ancient Egyptian Gods & Goddesses & their mythology. It is understandable to both student & scholar. It is an excellentfoundation to the basic knowledge of Ancient Egyptian & their Deities.

The Egyptians were very serious about their gods and the afterlife, which was a key aspect of their worship. They had a lot of gods, different ones being more or less important depending on time period and geography. And the relationship among the gods was also very fluid. So it is a very complex topic without a fixed solution. "Egyptian Mythology" does a reasonable job of explaining the important gods and their primary relationships. Being about to understand what you are seeing when you confront a picture of a god within an Egyptian temple in Egypt is another entirely. The book is a first step but will not get you all the way to a comprehensive understanding.

Just started reading this and already hooked, usually the beginning of books is boring in my opinion, but this is just packed with information and curiosity right from the get go. Definitely get this if you're interested in Egyptian mythology and enjoy learning about where their ideas on beliefs and culture started from. Great quality as well.

This is a great book for anyone who loves ancient Egypt. Includes a ton of information besides the mythological side, but also the history as well. I like that the author remains objective and admits that certain points are mere theories or speculation and not fact. Which is important when dealing with the mysteries of the ancient world.

I was looking for a readable text that would walk me through high level the historical timeline of Egypt along with predominate stories behind the major gods and goddesses. This book does a fair job of that along with providing some contextual background at why it is complicated. The first half is readable, the second is more of a reference. My biggest complaint is that the text commonly references figures in the book without telling you what page they are on, so you have to hunt for them, often dozens and dozens of pages later. I think this gave me a nice into, but I'd like a more detailed text to continue my learning.

Bought it for research on a story I am writing and it is very informative. Egyptian mythology is convoluted and other sources just weren't making things clear to me, this book gave me all the answers I was looking for.

I found this book highly informative and an easy enough read. I like the way she separates the creation myths together from the different seats of power in Egypt as well as guiding the reader through her thoughts on the subject matter.

Not for him the flirtation with evil thinking that an Elmore Leonard does so well or the temptation to sympathize with evildoers that an Alfred Hitchcock offers. So, the one previous review of this little work shows the painful ignorance of the reviewer. Minnich’s book isn’t a book seeking to refute Atheism as such. Anyone with a modicum or reading ability would realize this. That being said, to the book! Munich does a good job of laying out a common problem for intellectual theists. Often we have this issue of finding atheism to be a viable or live option, even though we know it is riddled with logical problems. Whence comes this psychological phenomena? Minnich’s books seeks to answer that question.

Here is yet another fabulous book for our "secular age." However, the angle taken in this little essay is still unique, especially in regards to the way in which modern Christians in the West, in a sort of default way, feel as though the world in which they live is so far removed from the "enchanted cosmos" of previous periods and generations. As such, there is a powerful tendency among us to "lose" our faith in way that is less akin to being argued out of it and more like having it expire and drain out because we cannot, through our own willpower and mental faculties, keep up with the secular onslaught and maintain it in the midst of it all. Thus, our "apologetic" in the 21st-century might need to shift and look a little less like learning to rationally and philosophically judo chop our opponents (as it did in the 20th-century) and more like seeking ways to recover an enchanted cosmos, through historic worship, spiritual disciplines, and so on.So here's the bottom line: If you ever wonder why atheism has such a "pull" even on Christians, this book is for you. If you ever wonder how Christians can move forward despite our increasingly complex and secular times, this book is for you. But if you're looking for a book that will equip you with answers and arguments for your discussions with atheists, this isn't exactly what you're looking for (though I really think you should still read it).

The author is fair and square about his take on the subject of atheism. Some good points that will make you think about the whole subject.

Usually the synthesis of model metal compounds follows rather than anticipates the dis­ covery of novel biological configurations. However, such studies give us a firm basis for an understanding of the biological systems, and sometimes answer questions that cannot be tackled any other way (for instance, what is the net charge on an iron-sulphur cluster?). As a result, we can refer to new and interesting information on the metals oflife at a chemical level. We gratefully acknowledge the help of Professor P. Banks and Dr D.
